No charges filed in Leland shooting, considered a ‘deadly accident’

LELAND, NC (WWAY) – The Brunswick County District Attorney says there will not be any criminal charges related to a fatal shooting earlier this year.

On January 5, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting in the 500 Block of Creekview Lane in Leland.

When they arrived, officers and EMS crews found 32-year-old Daniel Todd Adams dead of an apparent gunshot wound.  After an extensive investigation, the Sheriff’s Office determined that Adams was accidentally shot when a close friend attempted to take a firearm from Adams, after witnessing Adams handle the firearm in an unsafe manner.

Investigators say alcohol was a contributing factor in the accidental shooting.

The Sheriff’s Office presented the findings of the investigation to the DA’s office and after their review, it was determined that there will not be any criminal charges related to this accident.
