Brunswick County budget retreat starts Tuesday

The county could be looking at more than a $10 million dollar shortfall.

The weak housing market has led to a drop in several revenue lines, including the water system.

Sales tax revenue is also down dramatically.

Sales tax will shift to point of purchase. This means if a Brunswick County resident shops in Wilmington, the sales tax will remain there. In the past, sales tax revenue was distributed throughout the counties based on population.

County commission chair Bill Sue suggests residents make an effort to shop in Brunswick County as this sales tax shift could mean big bucks.
