Fugitive from New York caught on Market Street

Location: 3100 Block of Market Street (Traffic Stop)

Detectives from the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Gang Task Force and the Wilmington Police Department initiated a traffic stop which led to the arrest of a fugitive from New York.

Anthony Tyrone Smith, 32, was charged in 1997 for criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree.

New York State Division of Parole listed Smith as wanted for violating conditions of his parole. Smith is being held in the New Hanover County Detention Facility without bond pending his extradition to New York State.
