UPDATE: Family says truck driver doing better after crash with log truck


BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – The family of the man injured in a crash with a log truck says he is doing much better.

April Bland says her brother, Michael Simmons, is at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery. Bland says her brother has chemical burns from battery acid but no broken bones.

Simmons was hurt when his pickup truck collided with a log truck and he was pinned inside.

It happened just before 6:00 a.m. Friday morning on Makatoka Road in Ash.

Bland says the driver of the log truck,  67-year-old William Jordan, has spoken with the family and has been very remorseful.

Jordan faces charges in that crash.
