Fight to establish Southport no-wake zone begins anew

BRUNSWICK COUNTY (StarNews) — Once again, county officials are seeking to establish a no-wake zone in the Intracoastal Waterway abutting the city of Southport.

The area in question stretches from the end of the waterway, near where Old American Fish Company is located, to the entrance of the Southport Marina.

Though Brunswick County Commissioners have approved a resolution establishing a no-wake zone in the area, the request has been denied several times before by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
