Camp Lejeune Marine who killed wife now up for parole
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – A Camp Lejeune Marine convicted 25 years ago of killing his wife is up for parole.
In August 1990, Cpl. Warren Bronson had recently moved to Maple Hill, when he shot and killed his wife, Sherry, and then shot himself in the leg. In July 1991, Bronson was found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison for the murder.
According to news articles from the time of the murder, Bronson shot his wife twice with a shotgun after she threatened to leave him and take their 2-year-old child. Court records show Bronson changed his story several times, at first telling detectives an intruder had broken in and shot him and his wife. He eventually admitted to killing his wife after they argued and she fell asleep, and then shooting himself and firing two shots at the back door.
The NC Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission is investigating the case for parole. Information gathered during the investigation from people for and against Bronson’s parole, as well as the facts of the case, will be considered before a decision is made.
According to the NC Department of Public Safety website, Bronson, now 49, is in a prison in another state.
State law eliminated parole for crimes committed on or after Oct. 1, 1994, but offenders from before then are still eligible.
