Homes evacuated after gas leak

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A gas leak shut down part of a Wilmington neighborhood this afternoon. A man accidentally backed his truck over a natural gas pipe in the 200 block of Greenville Avenue. He immediately called 911.

Wilmington fire and police responded to the call. Several residents in the immediate area had to be evacuated from their homes.

Crews fixed the problem by mid-afternoon. Dispatch says there were no injuries.
