Students get inside look at WPD

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Dozens of elementary school students got an inside look at the Wilmington Police Department today. The students got to see the different roles officers play in the department, from the K9 unit to the CSI unit.

The Police Department Demo Day is held periodically throughout the year. Today nine schools made the trip, and as you can imagine students were excited to see all the different tools police use on a daily basis.

“My favorite was the prisoner transportation where you get to go inside where they have the prisoners,” Evan Kite, a student at Eaton Elementary.

Police say a lot of times students are unaware of all the duties that come along with being an officer, and the Demo Day is a fun way to teach kids about the job.
