Coffee with Markley: Superintendent sits down with parents

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Do you have questions or concerns about county schools? New Hanover County Superintendent Dr. Tim Markley is taking time to sit down with parents and guardians to discuss their questions and concerns.

Parents and guardians were invited to meet with the superintendent at Bitty and Beau’s Coffee Shop Tuesday morning to have their voices heard. Dr. Markley says questions he heard a wide range of questions, from redistricting to residency to early college.

Kelli Leiner, who has a child at Wrightsville Beach Elementary questioned the superintendent and the Special Education Director, Julie Askew, about mental health care in schools.

Dr. Markley says it’s a great opportunity for parents to come out in an informal, non-school setting. He plans to follow up with parents who had more specific concerns.

If you missed Tuesday’s coffee session, he will be hosting another session from 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 at Creekwood South Residents Center.
