Tomey drops state senate run
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A possible candidate for state senate is dropping out. Wilmington City Council woman Kristi Tomey said today she will no longer try to get her name on the ballot as an unaffiliated candidate.
Tomey said her mother fell and hurt herself while trying to get signatures for the campaign. Now Tomey will be focusing her attention not on the campaign, but on her mother.
“I thought we were well positioned to go into this election in the fall, and I still believe that if I didn’t have my current family situation we would still be in this race,” Tomey said.
Tomey needed to collect more than 5,700 signatures in order to get her name on the ballot. Before her mother’s injury she collected more than 2,300.
