Some Hampstead residents without water after road collapses
HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) – Since around 7 p.m., Hampstead residents who live in the Olde Point, Country Club road area have been without water.
Pender County Utilities says the several inches of rain that fell yesterday undercut a portion of the road. It took out the shoulder and the water main in that area. Crews are working on the water main and hope to have it repaired late this afternoon.
Once it is repaired, there will be a boil water notification in effect until the water is deemed safe.
Because of the rain and flooding, Pender County Schools were on a two-hour delay today.
Several people who live in the area contacted WWAY wondering why they didn’t have water. When we asked Pender County Utilities, they said a robocall goes out to as many customers as it can and the information is usually posted on the Pender County Utilities website, but this happened so quickly, they didn’t have time to post that information yet.
According to Pender County’s Facebook page, about 600 customers are without water. Pender County says repair crews should have the water back on by 4 p.m.
