Police: 73-year-old Wilmington woman jailed for shooting relative in face

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A 73-year-old Wilmington woman is in jail after police say she shot a family member in the face during a domestic dispute.

Wilmington Police say they charged Delores Kerrin Hewett with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury for shooting her family member with a pellet-type round. Police say it happened at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of Bladen Street.

Police say the victim was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center by EMS with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.

Hewett is in the New Hanover County Jail under a $250,000 secure bond.
