Portion of Water Street to close for repairs
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – Starting tomorrow, crews will begin repairs to a stormwater pipe on Water Street between Grace and Walnut Streets.
The City of Wilmington said a telecommunications contractor accidentally caused a basketball-sized hole in the drainage pipe, which led to a small sinkhole on Water Street.
The repairs will require Water Street to be closed to all traffic between Grace Street and the northern entrance of the Hilton Hotel and will be closed to thru traffic between Grace Street and Walnut Street.
The city says the driveway entrance to the Hilton will remain open and the parking lot for the Cotton Exchange will not be affected. Work will be conducted at low tide and is expected to take approximately two days to complete.
