FIRST ON 3: Bladen Sheriff candidate not violating Hatch Act

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Bladen County Sheriff’s deputy has not violated federal law by running for Sheriff. Eric Bryan’s attorney released a letter from the US Office of Special Counsel he received today.

In the letter a government attorney wrote that Bryan did not violate the Hatch Act. The law prohibits government employees who get federal funding from running for office. The Office of Special Counsel determined that Bryan’s job serving civil papers for the Sheriff’s Office is not federally funded.

There’s a similar investigation of Bryan’s opponent and fellow deputy Prentis Bentson.
