Matthew’s impact arrives in full force along Cape Fear coast


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The long wait for Hurricane Matthew is over in southeastern North Carolina. Now the wait is for the storm to move through and out of the area.

Rain has picked up along the coast overnight and into the morning as the eye of Hurricane Matthew moves past Charleston, SC.

The storm triggered several tornado warnings in the Wilmington area this morning, though there has not yet been any ground reports of tornadoes. Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover and Pender counties are under a TORNADO WATCH until 4 p.m. The entire WWAY viewing area is under a FLASH FLOOD WARNING until 1:30 p.m.
