Names of 2 men killed in Bladen County flooding released


CLARKTON, NC (WWAY) — Two men in Bladen County died Saturday as a result of the flooding from Hurricane Matthew.  According to 1st Sergeant Matt Hardee with the State Highway Patrol, 44 year-old Shawn Kemp and 22 year-old Juwan Rolando McCoy-Carter died when their vehicle was overtaken by flooding waters on the 1000 block of Rosindale Road in Clarkton.

Both men were from the Clarkton area, and family members of McCoy-Carter told WWAY-TV that he was a football player and 2013 graduate of East Bladen High School.

 

Flooding continues to be a significant problem in Bladen County.

Elizabethtown City Manager Eddie Madden says several families have had to be relocated. Madden says he’s heard reports that between 9 p.m. Friday and noon today Elizabethtown received about 10 inches of rain.
