Wrightsville Beach to address another parking problem

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Wrightsville Beach knows it has a parking problem, but there’s a new battle. Tomorrow night the Board of Aldermen will discuss cars that are parked in the grass near Wrightsville Beach Park and town hall.

The park is used by beach-goers who do not want to pay for parking. Town Manager Bob Simpson says the problem is during busy weekends when beach-goers start parking on the open areas of grass once all the spots are filled.

“We have an ordinance that prohibits parking on the grass in the parks area, which this is a park area that includes a fine of $50,” Simpson said. “However we have not aggressively enforced that in the past, and it’s primarily complaint driven, so what the board is doing is trying to establish a policy on how they’re going to approach this for the upcoming holidays.”

Coming up at tonight at 6 we’ll hear more from the town manager about parking in general in Wrightsville Beach.
