Warrant: Sex offender admitted kidnapping girl from neighborhood


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New details are being released in the case of a registered sex offender charged with abducting a New Hanover County girl last month.

According to warrants during an interview with police, Douglas Edwards admitting taking the six-year-old girl from her front yard off Carolina Beach Road, putting her on his moped and taking her to a place off River Road. Edwards says he took her into the woods and chained her to a tree. He also said he kissed her on the forehead before he left.

Also in the warrants, the girl says Edwards grabbed her from her front yard, put her on the moped and put a helmet on both himself and her. She says he drove to the woods where he chained her to a tree. She then said he committed a sex offense against her.

Edwards is a registered sex offender. He is charged with kidnapping, indecent liberties with a child and violating his parole.
