Sweepstakes café owners speak out against proposed ban
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — North Carolina Senators want to say good-bye to internet sweepstakes cafés. Last night the Senate voted 47-1 to ban the gambling parlors many senators say have skirted the 2006 ban on video poker.
Local sweepstakes owners say it’s unfair to the business owners and their customers.
“Everyone has their own right and opinion as to what they should be able to do,” Alexis Ginn said. “I don’t think they should take it away, because if the citizens want to play. It should be an option for them.”
New Hanover County’s Julia Boseman was the only senator who voted against the ban. The bill now moves on to the House, where it could face a much tougher road.
