WPD: Afternoon shooting sends one person to the hospital

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police said one person was hurt in a shooting in Wilmington Tuesday afternoon.

Wilmington Police spokeswoman Linda Rawley said it happened around 3:30 p.m. near McRae and Walnut streets.

That’s where Rawley said someone was shot in the leg in that area. Before the shooting, police said witnesses called to report hearing a confrontation.

Rawley said there was no ShotSpotter alert, just calls in by witnesses.

Police said the victim was taken to the hospital, but there’s no word on the person’s condition. Rawley said there is no suspect information at this time.
