Board of Elections waiting to certify sales tax hike vote
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Board of Elections has cancelled its July 9 meeting to certify the May 4 vote to raise the sales tax a quarter of a cent. Elections director Bonnie Williams says the state elections chair needs to sign an order upholding the county board’s decision to dismiss Justin LaNasa’s protest of the vote. The county board must then wait ten days after LaNasa is served with the order before it can certify the election.
LaNasa plans to appeal the state board’s decision to Wake County Superior Court. Williams says she does not think that appeal will affect the certification.
