Coast Guard, other agencies search for missing swimmer near Surf City
SURF CITY, NC – The Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Surf City Fire and Rescue were searching for a missing swimmer near the Surf City pier Saturday night. The Fire and Rescue crew saw a swimmer struggling in the water about 200 yards from the pier, lost sight of the person and called the Coast Guard for help at about 8 p.m.
Searching are crews aboard Station Wrightsville Beach 41-foot and 25-foot rescue boats, an Air Station Elizabeth City MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter, Marine Corps Cherry Point’s Pedro helicopter and Surf City Fire and Rescue’s all terrain vehicle.
