Pender County searching for housing for families affected by hurricane

BURGAW – Pender County is creating a database to try and connect landlords with families displaced because of Hurricane Matthew.

The Pender County Housing Authority is working to help local families.

“This is a situation of neighbor helping neighbor,” said Pender County Housing Director Judith Herring. “We are creating a database of available rental units specifically in Pender County to provide short and long term housing for displaced families.”

If you’re a landlord interested in participating, give the housing authority a call at (910) 259-1208 or email housinginf@pendercountync.gov.

“If participating landlords can provide information about their units, we can connect them with potential renters,” Herring said. “We continue to encourage landlords to carry on their normal screening procedures. We’re just helping people make connections.”
