“Under God” billboards now going up across the state
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – Now there are battling billboards in North Carolina.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that billboards with the message “one nation, under God” are going up across North Carolina. They’re a response to billboards placed in six North Carolina cities by the North Carolina Secular Association.
Those signs with the message “one nation indivisible” drop the words “under God,” which were added to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954. The group says it wanted to show that nonbelievers are
patriotic.
A coalition called We Still Pray has bought space on six electronic billboards and is raising money for more signs. The group is made up of local churches, businesses and individuals.
