Transition Fair hopes to provide opportunities for students with disabilities
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Today at CFCC’s Union Station students with disabilities from New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender counties got a chance to plan for their futures at the sixth annual Transitions Fair.
Dozens of booths were out for people to get to knoe more about what options they have after school. Schools and other support systems were there to talk with families about their programs and employers were there with job opportunities, where folks could even apply on the spot.
Betsy Stanwood with New Hanover County Schools said it’s important that families have all the right information when making a decision about transitioning.
“Unfortunately, when they leave us in terms of the school system, they don’t have the supports or somebody advocating for them as well. And sometimes it’s hard for them to know what services are out there and available as adults,” said Stanwood.
And don’t worry if you missed the fair today, there’s another Resource Fair on November 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at 1802 S. 15th St. here in Wilmington and Stanwood said you can get help at any time through the school system.
