High school students get lessons in business
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Nearly 40 rising high school freshmen are putting their heads together to learn the basics of business. UNCW is hosting the Youth Entrepreneur Program, a camp for students from New Hanover County.
The three student groups each come up with an idea for a board game, along with a business plan and a marketing strategy. The team with the best idea will get to market their game to a real life company.
These ninth graders are learning the importance of team building, but the benefits don’t stop there.
“I think it’s a good experience it’s good for them to get that exposure to a college campus. Many of them might not have the opportunity otherwise,” YEP mentor Kevin Thompson said.
Friday the students will present their ideas. Program leaders hope to eventually create an entrepreneurship program for the entire region.
