Whiteville Post 137 gets hot at the right time. Wilmington Post 10 is headed home.

Whiteville Post 137 entered the state legion tournament in Asheboro with nothing to lose. So far the formula is working to perfection. After two games Whiteville has yet to lose. Whiteville beat Rutherford County on Sunday 17-8 in a winners bracket game. Whiteville is one of two teams in the double elimination tournament without a loss. Whiteville’s next game will be Monday at 7:30pm vs. Randolph County. Randolph beat Cary 2-1 in extra innings on Sunday. Randolph beat Wilmington Post 10 in Saturday’s first round.

Wilmington Post 10 is known for its hitting. Admittedly, the Post 10 pitching is average at best. Their players even acknowledge it. In Asheboro the Post 10 bats were silent for the first time this season. Post 10’s season is now silent as well. Post 10 not only loses on Saturday in the first round of the tournament, but they lost on Sunday in the losers bracket game. Cherryville beat Wilmington Post 10 on Sunday 4-3. Post 10 ends the season with a 22-5 record.
