Cape Fear Community College honors veterans
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College is making sure veterans know they are loved and honored by putting together a special ceremony.
The event was held in Tabitha’s Courtyard in Downtown Wilmington Friday afternoon. They kicked off the ceremony with the national anthem followed by a variety of speakers.
Dozens of people came out to support those who fight for our country and honor them for Veterans Day. Student veteran Sukndev Khera says Veterans Day is not only important to give thanks, but also to understand what the men and women serving our country go through.
“So I think it’s important that we get together and share our stories amongst ourselves but also with other people, just so that everyone knows what we went through,” Khera said.
Khera served for six years in the Army Reserve and fought overseas in Afghanistan for eight months.
He says being in the military helped him mature and get back into school where he continues to learn and help others adjust back to civilian life.
