Appeal denied for former state Rep. Wright

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The NC Court of Appeals has upheld a felony conviction against former state Rep. Thomas Wright. Wright, who represented parts of New Hanover and Pender Counties, was expelled from the legislature before being convicted in 2008.

His attorneys argued Wright’s failure to properly file campaign finance reports did not constitute obstruction of justice. The court ruled even though the law had never been applied this way the charge did fit.

Wright was recently moved to New Hanover Correctional to continue serving his six to eight-year sentence.
