Burgaw Ponytails Stay Alive in Softball World Series

In Round 5 North Carolina vs. South Carolina for an elimination game. The 1st inning started off with the leadoff batter, Kyra Holmes, for North Carolina hitting a double right up the middle. Jordan Floyd came up to bat and had a base hit single to score the RBI and put NC on the board 1-0. South Carolina was able to put 1 on the board in the 1st inning and tie up the game.

The 2nd inning had Kristina Collier on base from a walk and a stolen base then Desire Brown came up to bat and had a base hit single. With runners on, Anna Craft had a base hit single to score an RBI, giving NC the lead at 2-1. South Carolina was able to answer again with 1 run to tie it up again at 2-2 after the 2nd inning.

The 3rd and 4th innings were scoreless for both teams, with NC and SC only getting 1 hit each.

In the 5th inning, AJ Johnson led off with a single and Kristina Collier getting on base from being hit by the pitcher. Desire Brown came up to bat and had a huge line drive to get a double and score 2 RBI’s, giving NC the lead again 4-2.

The 6th and final inning, NC was unable to put any more runs on the board and was able to hold SC scoreless and take the win. Final Score 4-2.

Pitchers: AJ Johnson, Hayley Grizzle, Taylor Rivenburgh

South Carolina was eliminated from play in the tournament with this loss.

North Carolina will face off tomorrow evening at 8pm in the Dixie Ponytails Softball World Series Championship game vs. winner of Louisiana/Virginia semi-final game. Games are being played in Georgia.
