Blasts rock ILM, neighbors

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If you heard explosions near Wilmington International Airport this afternoon, there’s nothing to worry about. The Department of Defense set off old explosives in a controlled detonation. The first explosion was set off around 2:30 p.m. followed by the second one 15 minutes later. The DOD asked to use the airport field to make sure the blasts were set off in a safe and secure area.
