WHQR-FM hires new station manager

INFORMATION FROM A NEWS RELEASE SENT TO THE WWAY NEWSCHANNEL 3 NEWSROOM…

The Board of Directors of Friends of Public Radio (WHQR 91.3 FM) is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Cleve Callison as the new station manager of WHQR. Mr Callison’s first day on the job will be Tuesday, September 7, 2010.

A native of Gaffney, South Carolina, Mr. Callison comes to Wilmington after having most recently served as general manager of WMUB, the public radio station at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Prior to WMUB, Cleve managed WFDD at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem. While at WFDD, he served as president of the North Carolina Public Radio Association.

The Board of Directors of WHQR assumed control of the daily operations of the station in December of 2008. Since that time, the Board has managed costs aggressively and, working with a committed staff and devoted volunteer base, restructured its business model. WHQR is the sole provider of National Public Radio (NPR) news, information, entertainment and emergency broadcasts to listeners in 22 counties, covering southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina.

The Board of Directors looks forward to the leadership and experience that Cleve Callison will bring to WHQR and our entire listening community.
