FIRST ON 3 UPDATE: Bail Bondsman now charged with rape

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – A Wilmington bail bondsman who was recently charged with custodial sex offense, is now charged with first degree rape.

Wilmington police added these additional charges against Anthony Newkirk after reviewing the evidence of his previous case. He’s accused of having sexual relations with a woman while she was under his care as a bail bondsman.

Newkirk will now face both charges.

Newkirk was also charged with several misdemeanors by the NC Department of Insurance for failing to properly file paperwork, misdemeanor memorandum of agreement required, and misdemeanor excessive bond premium.

His bond is set at $330,000.

He is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.
