Drivers talk travel for Thanksgiving
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — According to AAA, across the country this Thanksgiving travel week will be the busiest we’ve seen in about nine years with more than 48 million people trekking to the holiday destinations. Here in Wilmington people are already hitting the roads.
“Well I picked up my daughters in Wilmington, we’re going to drive to Spring Hope to pick up the rest of the crew and then caravan to the Outer Banks for Thanksgiving with my parents and siblings and cousins and nephews and nieces,” said Jay Todd.
The Waze navigation app said Tuesday and Wednesday are the worst times to face traffic on the roads, but that’s not stopping travelers from driving.
“Does traffic ever put a damper on things?” reporter Taylor Yakowenko asked one traveler, McKenzie Hamilton.
“I mean a little bit, but we get through it because it’s just traffic so,” Hamilton said.
For some who travel annually, gas prices this year are looking pretty good.
“Anything less than three dollars a gallon is golden,” said Todd.
While others said they with they were paying less at the pump.
“I was going to fill up on the other College station, it was like $1.93, but of course I did not get to pull off because of the traffic so I’m here paying $0.10 more,” said Hamilton.
And for those of you waiting to hit the road, good news. Waze said Thursday is predicted to be an easy travel day. But if you’re heading home on Sunday traffic is predicted to be pretty bad.
