While responding to crash, officers hear several gunshots
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – Wilmington police officers were at the scene of a crash on Racine Drive early this morning when they heard three gunshots.
It happened just before 2:30 a.m in front of Might As Well bar.
Police say several witnesses came forward and said a white man in a blue Civic was firing a gun.
After searching for 30 minutes, police found the car in the 900 block of S. Kerr Avenue.
Police say the passenger, Matthew Ryan Horner, 23, was intoxicated and had a gun in his waist.
Police say he admitted to firing the gun after a disputed and later said the gun was stolen.
Police say the casings found in the road matched those in the weapon. There are no reports of injuries or property damage.
Horner faces several charges, including discharging firearm in city limits, going armed to the terror of the public, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a schedule 4 controlled substance.
He’s in jail under a $20,000 bond.
