Trump offers to buy site of proposed 9/11 mosque

NEW YORK CITY (Bloomberg) — Donald Trump has sent an offer to purchase the site of the proposed mosque near New York City’s Ground Zero for the price paid plus 25%, according to a statement received by e-mail.

Mr. Trump said that, as part of the offer, if the proposed mosque were to be built downtown it would be located at least five blocks further from the World Trade Center site.

An excerpt from Mr. Trump’s letter:

I am making this offer as a resident of New York and citizen of the United States, not because I think the location is a spectacular one (because it is not), but because it will end a very serious, inflammatory, and highly divisive situation that is destined, in my opinion, to only get worse.
