ONLY ON 3 UPDATE: Police arrest man for slashing Marine’s face

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Among the resources WPD is using downtown is its surveillance camera system. Although some incidents have managed to escape the lens, a camera captured the man police believe left a Marine scarred for life.

A convicted felon is behind bars tonight. Police say he slashed Brandin Roberts, a Marine visiting Wilmington last month. New Hanover County deputies arrested 27-year-old Charles Edward Booker today. Booker is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Police say video from a surveillance camera shows Booker slashed Roberts outside a downtown nightclub August 15. Booker has an extensive criminal background, including an attempted murder conviction in 2000. After he got out of federal prison, he was arrested again for possession of a weapon by a felon in 2004.

Booker is in jail under $100,000 secure bond. Roberts suffered several injuries to his face that left him stitched, stapled and scarred. Booker is scheduled to make his first court appearance tomorrow morning.
