Gov. Purdue decides not to investigate UNC insurance claim

RALEIGH, NC (NEWS RELEASE) – North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue officially responded to Students for Life of America’s request for an investigation into the UNC System’s abortion health care policy. Through a generic form letter, the Governor dismissed our request and has denied the opportunity to investigate the use of federal funds to pay for the UNC abortion health insurance plan, which students are automatically registered in when they sign up for health insurance.

Upon receiving the Governor’s response, SFLA executive director Kristan Hawkins said, “It is ridiculous that the Governor of North Carolina has refused our request for an investigation. the fact that there could be federal funds at stake in this issue should deeply trouble any public servant. The citizens of North Carolina, most especially the students in the UNC system deserve to know the truth.”

SFLA will continue to demand that abortion be removed completely from the UNC System’s health care policy and is investigating the use of federal funds to pay for parts of the plan.
