Wilmington gang member arrested after Shot Spotter alert
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – A Shot Spotter alert led to the arrest of an 18-year-old Wilmington gang member overnight.
Wilmington police responded the the Shot Spotter activation in the 1100 block of E. Stewart Circle just before 1:00 a.m.
When police arrived, they spotted a white Nissan Altima backing out of a nearby driveway. Three people were inside.
Police say officers approached the car and recognized two of the people inside as validated gang members. Officers say they noticed a handgun in the waistband Kevon Lamante Bracey’s pants.
Police say a search revealed 15 doses of heroin and a handgun that had been reported stolen from Forsythe County.
Bracey was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession with the intent to sell or deliver heroin, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of heroin.
He is in the New Hanover County Jail under a $1 million bond.
