Leland officer shot Friday remains in stable condition
LELAND, NC (WWAY) -The Leland police officer shot Friday night is continuing to recover after undergoing emergency surgery.
According to a news release, Officer Jacob Schwenk was responding to a suspicious person call on Bridgeport Way in the Windsor Park subdivision when the suspect opened fire. Police say that man, Brent Quinn, died in the shooting.
Officer Schwenk was shot multiple times.
Just before Officer Schwenk was shot, 911 dispatch received a call about driver all over the road hitting several mailboxes. The State Bureau of Investigation is now investigating the shooting.
The town says the surgery was a success and Schwenk is in stable condition and has a long recovery ahead of him.
According to the town of Leland, they are paying all of Schwenk’s medical expenses and his full salary will remain intact during his treatment and recovery. Additional expenses for personal needs of Officer Schwenk associated with this incident are covered by the Town.
