Golfers honor girl’s memory, support good cause
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — More than 120 golfers took advantage of the nice weather today to hit the links at Landfall for a good cause.
WWAY 5th Quarter co-host Trot Nixon was among the field for the Play for Emily Memorial Golf Tournament.
The benefit was started by Emily Wade’s father, Happy, five years ago. Doctors diagnosed Emily with a brain tumor in 2005. She died a year later, but her legacy lives on. Proceeds from the golf tournament in her honor go to the Ronald McDonald House.
“It’s still hard,” Happy Wade said. “The years have gone by, and what we’ve decided to do is celebrate my daughter’s life, and so we do this in memory of her.”
Play for Emily raised more than $70,000 today. If you want to get involved next year visit http://www.playforemily.com.
