WHQR 91.3fm shortening Fall Pledge Drive

WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) – WHQR 91.3fm will begin its fall on-air fundraiser on Wednesday, October 13. The goal is to raise $125,000 in only seven days.

This campaign is one of three annual on-air fundraising efforts that make up a tremendous part of WHQR’s funding. As a non-profit independent public radio station, WHQR counts on the support of its members to provide the high quality radio the listeners have come to expect. The goal of this pledge drive is to raise $125,000 so that we can continue providing the thoughtful, award-winning news coverage and music and emergency broadcasting that is only found here on WHQR.

“We are very excited about shortening the upcoming Fall Pledge Drive.” says Station Manager Cleve Callison. “We plan to reach our goal in the shortest time possible so that we can bring our listeners more of the programming they listen for and want. We know we can count on our listeners’ support to make this happen. By meeting our $125,000 goal, we will be able to continue producing great radio for this terrific community.”

This Fall 2010 Pledge Drive will celebrate public radio and the community that WHQR serves by featuring community voices on the air during the pledge drive. Listeners will be treated to the voices of their neighbors, community leaders, cultural leaders, business leaders and more. WHQR is also asking members and listeners to complete a WHQR 2010 Survey (available online at whqr.org). It is a quick survey of listening habits and program preferences.

WHQR’s Fall Pledge Drive would not be possible without the help of more than 80 volunteers who answer our phones during each pledge drive. This community support, along with financial donations, is vital to our survival. Volunteer spaces are still available. Please call 343-1640 or email whqr@whqr.org for information. We also thank the many area restaurants who partner with us by donating meals for our hard-working volunteers. We are very fortunate to broadcast in such a generous community.

WHQR 91.3fm is the only public radio station for southeast North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina, broadcasting out of Wilmington.
