PITTSBORO, NC (AP) — Gov. Bev Perdue says her administration is trying to prevent bureaucracy from trumping common sense by restricting new rules issued by North Carolina government agencies.

Perdue announced Thursday in Pittsboro she’s ordering her Cabinet secretaries to avoid creating new rules unless they’re absolutely necessary or protect the health and safety of citizens.

She can’t force Council of State members and their departments to follow the order but asked that they do so. Perdue laid out a plan to allow for some new rules when they’re approved by her state budget office.

Perdue also said citizens, local governments and business should contact her office to point out rules that need to be reformed or eliminated.
