WPD: Heroin being sold here causing overdoses

WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) – The Wilmington Police Department has gathered information over the past two weeks about at least ten heroin overdoses. All of these overdoses are attributable to heroin packaged and labeled as “Brick Breaker.”

In one case, investigators were able to recover a bag of “Brick Breaker.” A photo of the red “Brick Breaker” mark is attached to this e-mail.

To date, no one has died in the city of Wilmington. But the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a recent fatal overdose that may also be attributable to “Brick Breaker.”

We have shared this information with members of the treatment community, in the hope that we can work together to save lives. Now we are appealing to news organizations to help us raise public awareness.

The laboratory analysis has not been completed, but investigators believe that Brick Breaker heroin may be cut with a lethal substance. The most important message is to warn potential users to avoid Brick Breaker. Thanks for anything you can do to help us inform the public.

Anyone who has information about the source(s) of Brick Breaker heroin is urged call 910-343-3600, or to submit the information anonymously through Text-A-Tip. Enter Tip708 and the message, and send to CRIMES (274637).
