GOOD NEWS: Laney High School Senior gets full ride to Vanderbilt

WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) – Ashleigh Antal, a senior at Laney High School, has been offered a full scholarship to Vanderbilt University and will formally accept on Signing Day, Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at Laney High School, 2700 N. College Road, Wilmington, NC, by signing the National Letter of Intent (NLI) declaring her intentions to play tennis for the Commodores next fall. Although Ashleigh is a year younger than all the other recruits in her year, she ranked as high as 42 in the nation and is Vanderbilt’s only 2011 recruit.

Ashleigh was inspired to play tennis at age seven by her mother who was a college athlete that played tennis for Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma. When asked what she likes most about the sport she stated, “I like that it is an individual sport and winning is all up to me.”

Vanderbilt University was Ashleigh’s choice because she believes that the university will offer her a great education and the coaches will be supportive throughout her academic career. She will major in Pre Law.
