Standoff with police ends peacefully

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — After about an hour and a half a stand-off ended peacefully for one family and Wilmington Police officers this afternoon.

Officers were trying to serve an assault warrant this morning for a man who lives on Audubon Blvd. when they thought they heard a gunshot. A police spokeswoman says the man threw a large firecracker out the back door that caused the noise.

Officers were trying to get him to cooperate and come out of the house.

Neighbors say they live in a very friendly neighborhood.

“I think before this happened it was a really safe neighborhood,” neighbor Lauren Grimes said. “I was never scared or felt threatened to go outside, and then you walk outside and you see something like this happen. It’s scary.”

Wilmington police will not release the name of the man involved in the standoff because he is undergoing a medical evaluation.

No one was injured.
