Man killed, woman arrested in Shallotte hit and run

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A 36-year-old woman facing felony Hit and Run charges after an early morning accident in Shallotte.

According to Shallotte Police, officers were called to the 4700 block of Main Street just before 5am Tuesday for a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.

When they arrived, they found a man lying unresponsive in the roadway.  Officers provided medical attention until Shallotte Fire/Rescue and Brunswick County EMS arrived on the scene, but the man died of his injuries. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of next-of-kin.

Police say the vehicle who hit the man left the scene, but the driver turned themselves in a short time later.

The driver has been identified as Blanca Mayel Montiel-Perez. Montiel. She has been charged with Felony Hit and Run resulting in Death and Misdemeanor Fail to Give Aid at an Accident.

Perez is currently being held at the Brunswick County Jail under a $25,000 bond.
