Verizon helps make holidays brighter for domestic violence victims

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Gift-giving season is in full swing, but some members of our community are more worried about their safety than the holidays. Employees at Wilmington’s Verizon Wireless Call Center help victims of domestic violence each year by teaming up to buy presents for families in need.

Wellness coordinator Stefanie Jones said there are all sorts of items on their wishlists.

“Some ask for clothing. Some ask for dishes,” Jones said. “They’re coming out of their home and being placed somewhere else for security purposes, so sometimes, they have to start all over.”

Verizon’s relationship with helping domestic violence victims is a national effort.

Because of the generosity of the 1,300 workers at Wilmington’s Verizon Call Center, 30 families in the area have something to celebrate this season.
