Onslow’s Brown to run Senate Commerce Committee

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina Senate Republicans continue to fill committee leadership posts for the new legislative session next month.

Senate leader nominee Phil Berger said Monday that incoming Majority Leader Harry Brown will be chairman of the Commerce Committee. The post is contingent on Berger winning the leader’s post, which is likely because the GOP will have a 31-19 majority in the chamber.

Brown is an Onslow County car dealer entering his fourth term. He says he wants to create a more business-friendly environment in the state and to encourage private-sector job creation.

Last week, Berger announced his proposed chairmen of the powerful Appropriations Committee – Sens. Pete Brunstetter of Forsyth County and Neal Hunt and Richard Stevens of Wake County.
