Asheville gets more than 6″ of snow; Alan Perry out more than $400,000

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – The results aren’t official yet, but Wilmington jeweler Alan Perry lost to Mother Nature on this Christmas Day. Back in November and early December, he ran an ad that touted, “If it snows in Asheville on Christmas Day, your purchase is absolutely free.” As of 5:00 pm, there were 6″ on the ground.

Perry says more than 300 people took advantage of the offer from November 25th to December 11th. He says, of course, he took out an insurance policy on the contest to cover the cost, but as of now, he guesses he’ll have to pay back more than $400,000 to customers. We asked him if he plans on doing it again next year. he’s thinking about, he said, but if he sticks with 3″, the next policy will be through the roof!
